A little help in planning your trip to the West Side Market

What can I get at the Market?
fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meats and poultry, smoked items, deli items, dairy items, baked goods, spices and sauces, herbs and other cooking ingredients, floral items, ethnic specialty items, other hard to find specialty items, imported foods, ready to eat foods like burgers, hot dogs, sausage sandwhiches, middle eastern foods, Irish foods, Mexican foods, Greek foods, and many many more. Check the Tenants' Association website for more details.

When is the best time to go?
Shoppers can expect to find what they're looking for at any time. However, some vendors' hours vary from the regular Market schedule. If you are planning to visit specific vendors, call ahead to verify their schedules. Saturdays are very busy, especially between 10am and 2pm. Some vendors are closed on Mondays.

Should I bring anything?
Plastic bags are provided by vendors. Some people like to bring their own heavy-duty shopping bags or small carts. If you plan on purchasing meat during warmer weather, you may find bringing a cooler filled with ice helpful. Ice is not available for purchase at the Market.

How can I pay?
Cash is always accepted. Most vendors accept the Ohio Direction Card. Some vendors accept credit cards (look for signs on their counters). Some vendors accept checks (please ask before placing your order).

What is the parking situation?
The main parking lot is located directly behind the Market and can be entered from Lorain Avenue. This lot is free, with a 2 hour enforced time limit. Additional parking is available by taking W. 25th to Bridge Avenue (near the tall apartment complex). This lot serves Market patrons and the other businesses along W.25th, and it is also free. Do not park at the shopping center on the south side of Lorain and W.25th or risk being towed.

Is the Market handicap-accessible?
There is plenty of handicap parking available in the main lot. Automatic doors are located about halfway down each side of the Markethouse. A handicap restroom is located in the cafeteria at the southeast corner of the Markethouse.

Where are the restrooms?
The main restrooms are located downstairs in the southwest corner of the Markethouse, near the newstand and Johnny Hot Dog. A handicap accessible restroom is located inside the Market Cafeteria located in the southeast corner of the Markethouse.

What if I have complaints?
The office of the Market Supervisor is located at the west end of the Markethouse. Use the stairwell at the end of aisles C and D (near City Roast Coffee, under the balcony). A scale is available for anyone who wishes to check their packages.

Are there any job opportunities?
Each stand is independently owned and operated. Anyone seeking employment needs to speak to the vendors individually.

What else is there to do in the area?
There is a lot to do and see around the neighborhood. Visit www.ohiocity.com for more ideas.

Any other advice?
If you are new to the Market, try browsing all the vendors before you make your selections. Choose vendors that have a clean appearance, display fresh looking products, and are courteous and friendly to you. Do not be afraid to ask questions. On return visits, continue to patronize the vendors that treat you well. Get to know them, and let them get to know you. Your trip to the Market should be fun and rewarding, and most of the vendors work very hard to make sure you have an enjoyable experience.
